Customer Review: Great film makes everyone look good

The idea with Portra is to make your friends and family look good in their portraits. Decades of research have gone into this, and it really works.
If you're after accurate colors, the NC is maybe a better choice. VC colors can seem a little plasticky or 1970s. However I really enjoy the VC in the winter when everything is gray and I want a little bit of visual pop in my images. It might not exactly match reality, but it's very subtle and it matches my memory of the events better, if that makes any sense.
The other nice thing about this film is that the colors don't shift much with under or overexposure, and the 400 speed is a good all-around flexible iso. I obviously don't know much about photography and I don't even have a light meter but I get quality images over 95% of the time.
I've had less luck with digital coming up with portraits where everyone looks good than I have with this film. I think it's because the digitals are quickly programmed to adjust a few computer settings, whereas the Portra was designed with input by artists and evolved over a long period of time with extensive feedback.
